the weekend...
Ok, so I just fell asleep at work. It's not the first time that has happened but it always a funny feeling to wake up and wonder if you got caught. Luckily for me, my phone rang and startled me awake.
So, one thing that I have to do this weekend is to get a new pair of running shoes. For the last six years I have ran in the New Balance 99x series (they change the last digit every few years). I loved the shoe so much that for years I didn't even care what else was out there. After talking to many knowledgeable people lately, I think I am going to buy a pair of Asics gels. I am not sure on the model or type though. I went to Runnersworld.com to see what they had to say which turned out to be a collection of soliloquies about pronating and over-pronating. I've been running recreationally and competitively since my track days in junior high and I haven't heard of pronating until today. So I guess things in the shoe world must have changed in the last few years. If anyone knows about any good brands or has any advice please enlighten me.
And have a great weekend!

Go to a running store and have them fit the shoe to your foot. Everyone has a different type of foot and running style. The cost is usually comparable to what you would find on the internet, I find. Plan on spending $80-$100. You should change your shoes every 300-400 miles or so (about every 6 months on average). I can't stress this stuff enough. I swear by my shoes b/c when they go past 300 miles, I get knee problems. When I change brands,I get knee problems. A new pair of Brooks Adrenaline, no knee problems. But my shoe may not work for you. Over-Pronating is when your foot turns in too much when you land (we all do it to a small extent). Hope this helps.
Hi there, I was just surfing by and thought I would put my 2 cents in. I love Asics Gels. It was a little hard to get used to them at first (I was a Nike lover) because they had so much more arch support. Once my arches fell, the AGs became to painful, but recently my doctor was able to help and I am back to being an AG fan. I would suggest going to a shoe store that sells them and get fitted so you know exactly what you need, then do a little internet comparision shopping (furgal.com is great) and possibly get them online. Have a great weekend!
Thanks for the replies!
I went to Foot Locker on Wed. night to get shoes but when I asked the sales kid about Asics he gave me a blank stare so I just left. I found a running store not far from my house. They should be able to help me better and know what they're talking about too.
I usually change my shoes based on the daylight savings time change (that's how I remember to do it) which is roughly every six months I think. I never thought about the actual mileage on the shoe though.
Welcome to my blog Shelly--thanks for the input. My Dad jogs with Asics and swears by them. So do a lot of my marathon friends, so I think it's pretty much a no-brainer to get the gels. I will check that website for prices before I go...
Hey Blake, thanks for visiting my blog! I realized I spelled the website wrong in my post to you. It's froogle.com and it's powered by google. :o) Hope that helps.
Great work!
